The Panama Canal Authority reports that due to drought and the El Niño phenomenon, they will restrict the passage of vessels through the canal. These restrictions include lowering the draft limit and reducing the number of daily transits. These measures will be in place for at least ten months, possibly extending into the first half of next year. This poses particular challenges for large container ships, which may consider alternative routes through the Suez Canal or around the Cape of Good Hope, resulting in reduced shipping capacity.
